SPANISH CITIZENSHIP UNDER THE DEMOCRATIC MEMORY LAW: RECLAIM YOUR ROOTS
Spain’s Democratic Memory Law offers a unique opportunity for descendants of Spanish nationals to obtain Spanish citizenship.
This law has an expiration date: you may only apply until October 21, 2025. Our team will accept new clients for this application only until February 2025. Don’t miss this opportunity—your case could take up to 5 months to be presented before the Consular Office or Civil Registry. Mistakes in your application could prevent you from securing another appointment before the deadline.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
- Sons and grandsons/granddaughters of Spanish nationals by origin, over 18 years old
- Great-grandchildren of Spanish nationals by origin, only after the grandchild has submitted their application
- Submit the application before October 2025
REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION
- Birth or baptism certificate of the Spanish ancestor
- Literal birth certificates of the applicants
- Apostille, legalization, and/or translation of all certificates
ANNEXES (Application Grounds)
- Annex I: Born outside Spain to a Spanish father, mother, or grandparent
- Annex II: Born outside Spain to a Spanish parent who lost nationality by marrying a foreigner before 1978
- Annex III: Child of someone who acquired Spanish nationality under the Right of Option through the Historical Memory Law (LMH) or the Democratic Memory Law (LMD)
- Annex IV: Child of a Spaniard born in Spain who opted for non-origin Spanish nationality under Article 20.1.b) of the Civil Code, or minor child of someone who acquired nationality under the LMH and later opted for non-origin nationality under Article 20.1.a)
